About Evelyn Howell, Designer

Evelyn Howell is a seasoned digital media professional with an extensive career spanning the evolution of digital content creation—from the early days of desktop publishing to advanced motion graphics, 3D character design, and immersive virtual environments.

She has served as a professor of computer graphics for over a decade, teaching Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and related subjects in both online and in-person formats at institutions including Valencia College, Full Sail University, and Seminole State College of Florida.

During her tenure at Valencia College, Evelyn held the position of Web Developer and Multimedia Designer within the Instructional Technology team. In this role, she was responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining websites, multimedia assets, and interactive applications to support faculty initiatives. She played a key role in supporting federally funded Title III and Title V grant projects, providing training and producing 3D animations, motion graphics, and instructional websites. Additionally, she contributed to Valencia’s telecourse programming for its ITFS television channels and facilitated faculty development workshops in web authoring and multimedia tools, including HTML, PowerPoint, and Flash.

From 2007 to 2017, Evelyn was recognized for her pioneering work in Multi-User Virtual Environments (MUVEs), particularly within Second Life. Her notable projects include creating custom avatars for acclaimed individuals such as French filmmaker and multimedia artist Chris Marker, and designing and programming the virtual campus for Valencia College. In 2015, she completed the development of a virtual campus for Majmaah University in Saudi Arabia and created Sage Park, an ESL-focused world on the Kitely grid. Her work in virtual world design received international recognition when one of her original avatars was featured as a visual asset in Steven Spielberg’s 2018 film Ready Player One.

Since 2017, Evelyn has been a course developer and instructor at The Los Angeles Film School, where she teaches Interactive Media Strategies and Entertainment Business Technology.
